Former India player Aakash Chopra has opined that the SunRisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) death bowling has been their biggest positive heading into their IPL 2026 clash against the Mumbai Indians (MI). He highlighted that the Hyderabad-based franchise has the best economy rate across all teams in the last four overs.
SRH will face MI in the 41st game of IPL 2026 in Mumbai on Wednesday, April 29. The visitors have garnered 10 points from eight games and are placed fourth on the points table.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, ‘Aakash Chopra,’ the former India batter pointed out that death bowling has triggered a turnaround in SRH’s fortunes in IPL 2026.
“The SunRisers Hyderabad are on a winning spree. They have won four consecutive games. Where have things changed for the SunRisers Hyderabad? This team has an economy of 9.17 in the last four overs, the best amongst all. They concede 36 runs in four overs on average. The Mumbai Indians concede nearly 10.75 runs per over,” Chopra said.
“You can give credit to Eshan Malinga and Sakib Hussain for that, and Pat Cummins has also come now. That is where the world has changed. The rise and rise of Eshan Malinga. Interestingly, in that one phase, they are the best amongst everyone. Who would have thought we would talk like this about Hyderabad?” he added.
In the same video, Aakash Chopra noted that SRH have a formidable batting unit, highlighting that they have scored 200-plus runs six times in IPL 2026.
“They needed to chase only once, which was the last match, and they chased there as well, and beat RR at their home, where Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan were absolutely flawless, and Heinrich Klaasen came later and did the job. This team has scored more than 200 runs six times. They are a beast team,” he said.
“Their average run rate is 10.6, which means they keep hitting. They don’t talk about anything less than 10 runs per over. If I look at it phase-wise, Hyderabad score more than 10.5 runs per over in the Powerplay, and the Mumbai Indians score at only 8.33 runs per over. They are almost equal in the middle overs, although Mumbai are slightly behind. Both teams are once again close in the death overs,” Chopra concluded.
