Just like Ashes, India-Pakistan encounters has been one of the greatest rivalries in the cricketing field. Both nations have produced some of the finest cricketers the game has ever witnessed and the clashes have been mouth-watering, to say the least.
Recently, former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator, Aakash Chopra, picked all-time Test XI featuring Indian and Pakistani cricketers, with Imran Khan as captain. Pakistan are well-known to produce some of the fiercest fast bowlers in the world while Indian have had great batters over the years.
Chopra went with the likes of Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag in the opening slot followed by the Indian maestros – Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar for the No. 3 and 4 slots. Two of the most illustrious Pakistan batsmen – Inzamam-ul-Haq and Javed Miandad followed to complete the batting line-up.
“There is no doubt that Sunil Gavaskar will be one of the openers as his presence is absolutely mandatory,” he said. “I would partner him with Virender Sehwag because he scored two triple centuries in Test cricket.
“At third and fourth position, I would include Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. At the fifth and sixth position, although they are both playing out of position but deserve a place in the XI, are Inzamam-ul-Haq and Javed Miandad,” he added.
Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra surprised one and all opting MS Dhoni for the wicket-keeper’s role. The two all-rounders in the team were Kapil Dev and Imran Khan, with the latter also being named the captain of the side. Wasim Akram, Anil Kumble constituted the 11 on the field while Waqar Younis was picked as the 12th man.
