The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is round the corner and the pundits have already started analysing the teams and predicting winners. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra is leading the chart with his sharp analysis and criticisms. Recently, Aakash Chopra pointed out the glaring weaknesses in the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side.

The cricketer-turned-commentator has earned a reputation for himself with his sharp analysis of the game. He has been putting out his thoughts on his YouTube channel. After making a couple of predictions, Aakash Chopra has now pointed out the weaknesses in the RCB side.

Although Bangalore have done an excellent in feeling the gaps in their squad but Aakash still feels death over batting remains an issue for them. Incidentally,  the lack of experience in the lower middle-order except Chris Morris can hurt the Virat Kohli-led side massively.

“One of their problems has been their death over batting. If AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli play till the end it is fine, but if not then who? It can be a matter of concern although it is better than earlier because they have Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar and Chris Morris,” said Chopra in a video on his YouTube channel.

“Dube and Sundar have played quite a bit for India and have scored runs and done their job, they are far more experienced. They should play Moeen Ali down the order and with the new acquisition Chris Morris, the four of them together can do the job even though they may not be the best in the world,” he added.

Absence of gun death bowler

Furthermore, Aakash Chopra pointed out that the Royal Challengers lack a gun death bowler, who can win matches on his own. Chopra believes both Morris and Styen are not gun death bowlers anymore and the likes of Navdeep Saini or Umesh Yadav have not lived up to their expectations.

“The second problem is the death over bowling. Chris Morris is not a gun death bowler, even if you play Dale Steyn, he is also not a gun death bowler. Then who is the gun death bowler – Navdeep Saini, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj – they do not inspire the confidence that you would perhaps want,” said Chopra.

Royal Challengers Bangalore will begin their IPL 2020 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad on September 21.
