Cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra has predicted a couple of possible changes to India’s squad for the upcoming T20 world cup looking at the poor form of Suryakumar Yadav, Ishaan Kishan, and Bhuvnaswar Kumar in the ongoing IPL 2021 held at UAE.

Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), announced Team India’s 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2021. The selectors made a couple of shocking choices, leaving out Shikhar Dhawan and Yuzvendra Chahal while Ravichandran Ashwin made the cut.

Two weeks into the second phase of IPL 2021, Aakash Chopra feels Ishaan Kishan getting dropped from Mumbai Indians’ (MI) first XI doesn’t look good with the T20 World Cup around the corner. The former opener added that Suryakumar going out of form, Hardik Pandya not bowling in the IPL, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s lacklustre season with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have opened up a few spots in the Indian T20 World Cup squad.

“I am looking at Ishan Kishan’s form, I mean, the guy isn’t even on Mumbai’s team. When you are not in Mumbai’s XI can you be in India’s 15? That’s a big question. Suryakumar Yadav, as much as I love him, the fact is his form has vanished and lost. He looks like a shadow of himself. Then I think of Hardik Pandya, who hasn’t bowled. The selectors said they picked 3 fast-bowlers because Hardik had promised to bowl but he isn’t,” Aakash Chopra said on his Youtube channel.

“Kumar’s form is troubling me too. If so many players are not in form, does that mean you’ll have to make changes? Look ideally, you don’t want to make too many changes because you selected players after some thought and now you should trust them for 2-4 bad innings,” he added further. 

Meanwhile, Ishaan Kishan has just scored 107 runs in 8 matches at an average of 13.37. Ishan’s poor run with the bat in the IPL 2021 is likely to keep the selectors in their shoes ahead of the global T20 event.

Shreyas Iyer, who has been named in the reserves for the T20 World Cup squad and is almost set to join the main squad, feels Aakash Chopra. CSK All-rounders Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar and Rajasthan Royals Captain Sanju Samson can also make the cut.

“But are there changes in the offing? I think yes, one change is almost confirmed – I feel Shreyas Iyer will come back to the team and one player will have to leave. One more player is under pressure too. Will you now look at Sanju Samson? I am not saying they should, I am just saying what might happen… I am looking at Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur. There might not be three or four changes, but I won’t be surprised with two changes.” He added to his statement.

Shreyas Iyer, who missed the first leg of IPL 2021 due to injury, has made a brilliant comeback into the Dehil Capitals team, averaging over 45 and scoring over 90 runs in just 3 matches. Likewise, Sanju Samson has shown tremendous amount of consistency scoring over 450 runs with an average of 45.50.
