Former cricketer AB de Villiers of South Africa praised Shreyas Iyer for KKR’s amazing 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) journey. Because they have won nine of their last thirteen games, the Knight Riders have secured the top spot in the standings with 19 points and a net run rate of +1.428, making them the first team to qualify for the postseason.

The 29-year-old Shreyas took Eoin Morgan’s place as the team’s captain in 2022, and they went on to win two titles. His back ailment prevented him from competing in the 2023 edition, which Nitish Rana led. Shreyas returned this season and established himself as a formidable figure.

After the 2021 Indian Premier League, De Villiers, who had given up on cricket altogether, praised Shreyas for his ability to remain composed and not give in to fear.

“Shreyas Iyer has been incredible. There have been a lot of doubts and talks about him as captain. I punted him at the start of the tournament. He is a wise guy, and a smart cricketer, and I love the way he is calm and composed as a captain. He never seems to get rushed, never seems to panic, even though you know deep down that you feel some panic, especially playing at the Eden Gardens,” De Villiers said on his YouTube channel.

Shreyas Iyer accomplishes massive KKR success in IPL 2024:

Punjab Kings’ loss to the Rajasthan Royals guaranteed that KKR would top the 10-team points table at the end of the IPL 2024 league stage. The KKR team, led by Shreyas Iyer, is presently riding a four-game winning streak and has already claimed nine victories out of 13 completed games.

Shreyas Iyer became the first skipper in the franchise’s history to guide his team to the top finish in the league stage of an IPL season thanks to KKR’s ideal result on the points table. KKR has previously placed second on the points table twice, both times under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir (2012 and 2014).

It’s interesting to note that the team management of KKR named former record holder and two-time IPL champion Gautam Gambhir as team mentor for IPL 2024 just a few months before the competition got off.

Earlier this month, KKR defeated the Mumbai Indians by an 18-run margin at Eden Gardens to secure their spot in the playoffs. The team’s next game against the Gujarat Titans was canceled due to the nonstop rain in Ahmedabad.

On May 19, Shreyas Iyer and company will play the Rajasthan Royals in the league stage finale. The highly anticipated match will take place at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
