Perhaps one of the most shocking incidents happened in the cricketing world this year would be the “unprecedented” retirement from the superman AB de Villiers.
His absence is really felt in the national side as the team encountered a humiliating 2-0 loss in the recently concluded test series against Sri Lanka. Nonetheless, the legend himself admitted that he will continue playing for the T20 leagues in South Africa and India.
AB de Villiers in a new role
AB de Villiers has been announced as the brand ambassador for the inaugural edition of UAE T20X league which is scheduled later this year. This is the first time since his retirement he was seen partnering with a cricket board. Speaking on taking up this new role AB said to The National, “The main thing that attracted me the most to this tournament is what it will do for young, emerging players. It will give them a great opportunity to play alongside some of the world’s best players. ”

A role model
AB has been a role model for several young cricketers across the world as he played a vital role in redefining the term “destruction” in the gentleman”s game. His patience in the middle has also won several tests for South Africa and it will be interesting how he can contribute to the development of Cricket in UAE.
Good days for UAE cricket
UAE received its ODI status a few months ago and the side is currently ranked 14th in the ICC rankings. The tournament starts on December 19 and a total of 24 matches are expected to be played over a period of 20 days. Emirates Cricket Board is the reason behind this extravaganza and the local players will be looking forward to reserve their berths which can better their chances of representing the nation.
