ENGvIND: Ben Stokes added to England”s squad for the third Test

After the jury verdict regarding Bristol brawl that took place in September last year, England star all-rounder Ben Stokes has been added to the England squad for the third Test against India to be played at Trent Bridge from 18th August.

Ben Stokes was not found guilty regarding the brawl by the judge that took place today. He missed the second test at Lords which the hosts England by an innings and 159 runs to take a 2-0 lead in series.

Ben Stokes played a key role in the first test match at Edgbaston. The star all-rounder took 4 wickets in the 2nd innings to give England a 31 run win. His brilliant bowling helped England defend194 runs against India. In the second test match, Chris Woakes replaced him and did a brilliant job with both and ball.

Chris Woakes took advantage of conditions at Lords where England dismissed India for 107 in the first innings. While batting, England was struggling at 131 for 5, Chris Woakes scored his maiden test century remaining not out on 137. In the 2nd innings too, the all-rounder picked 2 wickets and helped England win the match by an innings and 159 runs. He was named the man of the match for his all-around performance.

Due to pending trial in Bristol Court, Ben Stokes missed the Ashes series in Australia last year which England lost 0-4.

According to ECB spoke person, with legal proceedings over, the process for Ben Stokes and Alex Hales can be taken place by the Cricket Discipline Commission.

ECB statement on Ben Stokes: “Ben Stokes will now join the England squad for the third Specsavers Test against India, which starts at Trent Bridge on Saturday. Considerable detail has been heard in this week-long court case and, in due course, there will be a range of matters for the Board to fully consider.”

England have named the same squad that played in the 2nd test match at Lords. It will be interesting to see if Ben Stokes could be included in playing XI.
