For setting up the Sunday for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday at MA Chidambaram Stadium, AB de Villiers won the “player of the match” award for his brilliant 50. After the match, he engaged with his teammate, Yuzvendra Chahal, in a video interview and spoke about the match and his innings. 

After walking out to bat in the 12th over, de Villiers was unbeaten on 76. He took just 34 balls to score 76 and helped RCB to amass 204 for in their allotted 20 overs. To lay the foundation of putting up a big total, RCB’s Glenn Maxwell scored 78 runs. 

In the video, AB de Villiers explained to teammate Yuzvendra Chahal how he did plan the knock. He also revealed about taking on Andre Russell’s wide yorkers. The former South Africa cricketer also revealed that he thought of encountering the opposition because they were defensive. 

“I laid out a good foundation, and then their leg-spinner (Varun Chakravarthy) came on, I sensed he was bowling defensively and I realised that was my moment. When Russell came Con, he was stuck with wide deliveries, I opened up and it put him under pressure,” De Villiers told Chahal in a video posted on the official website of IPL.

Meanwhile, Glenn Maxwell’s knock was super important as they had lost two wickets cheaply, especially the wicket of their captain Virat Kohli nudged Bangalore. RCB got back on the track, banking on the knocks from Maxwell and de Villiers. The duo stitched a 53-run partnership.

The partnership between AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell propelled Bangalore to 204 which was enough to seal a win. As a result, Bangalore now have won all the three fixtures this IPL, and they are the table toppers. Speaking at the end of the game, AB de Villiers revealed his chat with Maxwell during that all-important partnership. 

“When I came out to bat, I realised Maxwell was tired, and he told me that he does not want to run much. To be honest, we enjoy playing together. We are similar players with a lot of energy, and we love having an impact on the team,” he added.
