Meghalaya had a decent outing at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, posting a total of 142/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Arpit Subhas stood out with a steady knock of 31 runs. Punjab’s bowlers, led by the dynamic duo of Ramandeep Singh and Abhishek Sharma, kept Meghalaya in check with two wickets each.

Chasing 143 runs, Punjab wasted no time. With Abhishek Sharma in fiery form, the team achieved the target in just 9.3 overs. The blistering innings ensured a swift victory, boosting Punjab’s confidence in the tournament.

Abhishek Sharma’s Heroics

Abhishek began the innings with a flurry of boundaries, setting the tone for an aggressive chase. His fearless approach left the opposition stunned. Smashing an unbeaten 106 runs off just 29 deliveries, Abhishek reached his century in a mere 28 balls, equalling the record for the joint second-fastest T20 century.

Abhishek’s bowling effort, with two wickets, played a significant role in restricting Meghalaya. His all-round performance earned him the well-deserved Player of the Match award.

His knock puts him alongside Urvil Patel in the record books, just behind Sahil Chauhan’s 27-ball century—the fastest in T20 cricket. Abhishek now shares the record for the fastest Indian T20 century, a testament to his batting prowess.

Performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

This century marks Abhishek’s fourth in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the highest by any cricketer. He surpasses stalwarts like Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Unmukt Chand, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who each have three centuries.

While Harnoor Singh fell cheaply for six runs, Abhishek ensured the momentum stayed with Punjab. Sohraab Dhaliwal contributed 22 runs off 15 balls, offering vital support to Abhishek.

With four wins out of seven matches, Punjab remains in contention for the quarter-finals. Teams like Rajasthan, Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh are leading the table, making Punjab’s path challenging but achievable.
