Team India secured a comfortable victory against South Africa in the third ODI on Tuesday, October 11 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. They chased down 100 runs with seven wickets to spare. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan lifted the Mastercard Trophy winning the three-match ODI series 2-1. 

Opening batter Shubman Gill shined with the bat as he top-scored for India with 49 runs in 57 deliveries, including eight boundaries. Shreyas Iyer continued his excellent run in the match. He remained unbeaten on 28 to steer the Indian team to victory in a low-scoring encounter.

Earlier in the match, Indian spinners spun a web around the South African batters to dismiss them for a paltry 99. Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers. He took four wickets conceding just 18 runs at an economy rate of 4.30. Meanwhile, Washington Sundar and Mohammed Siraj took a couple of wickets each.

Kuldeep Yadav won the Player of the Match, while Mohammed Siraj was awarded the Player of the Series. This is India’s first series win against South Africa at their home in 12 years. Social media was abuzz with praise for the Indian team for their brilliant performance.

Boys showed great character on tough batting pitches: Shikhar Dhawan

Team India lost the first ODI match against South Africa by 9 runs in Indore. However, they made a strong comeback to win the remaining two matches to win the series. Praising his team, skipper Shikhar Dhawan expressed that he is proud of the boys. He said at the post-match presentation,

“I am proud of the boys, the way they played in the series. The way they carried the responsibility and showed maturity. Would like to thank the support staff. We showed a lot of character in the first game, we dropped a few catches, but we never really put pressure on ourselves. We tried to stick to the process.”

“The boys showed great character on such tough batting pitches. The bowlers were clinical today,” he added.
