India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has come under fire after the team underperformed in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, where they lost 3-1. Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary accused Gambhir of hypocrisy and said his PR team lets him accept credit for everything.
Gambhir was made the head coach of the team after Rahul Dravid was relieved of the position post T20 World Cup in June 2024. He has also appointed Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate as the assistant coaches and Morne Morkel as the coach, all of them having been associated with Gambhir in the IPL in the past. Many people are questioning the coaching capacity of Gautam Gambhir and also his captaincy of the Indian team after hearing Tiwary’s comments.
“He got everything he wanted”- Manoj Tiwary On Gautam Gambhir

Tiwary’s disparaging comments on Gautam Gambhir caused a lot of controversy among Indian cricket fans. The former Bengal captain gave an explanation on Friday, January 10, for his criticism of the India coach as a “hypocrite.”
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Tiwary claimed that Gambhir’s “actions don’t match his words,” pointing out that the player chose Morkel and ten Doeschate for his staff while repeatedly advocating for the need for Indian trainers.
“Why did I call him a hypocrite. It is because of one of his interviews if you remember. In one of the interviews, he said, ‘All these foreign coaches, all the guys who come from abroad, have no emotions, they have no feelings. They earn money and enjoy themselves’,” Tiwary stated.
“When the time was there for him to select all the Indian coaches and all the Indian-origin support staff, why did he put forward the names of Ryan ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel? He got everything he wanted but he is not able to produce the results. Actions don’t match his words, so I called him a hypocrite,” he added.
