During the third ODI between Afghanistan and Ireland on Tuesday (March 12) in Sharjah, the match paused briefly as players observed the breaking of their fast during the ongoing holy month of Ramadan.

In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Mohammad Nabi and Hashmatullah Shahidi, along with their teammates on-field and in the dressing room, were seen offering prayers and breaking their fast.

For those unfamiliar, Ramadan is a significant observance for Muslims worldwide. It is observed by all adult Muslims, who fast from dawn until sunset (unless they are ill), during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar leading up to Eid. This year, Ramadan began on March 12th.

Afghanistan secured a 117-run victory over Ireland in the 3rd ODI, clinching the series 2-0

Mohammad Nabi’s impressive all-round performance guided Afghanistan to a 117-run victory over Ireland in the third ODI on Tuesday. Batting first, Afghanistan posted a total of 236/9 in their allotted 50 overs, propelled by half-centuries from captain Hashmatullah Shahidi and Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

Shahidi scored 69 runs off 103 balls, striking four boundaries, while Gurbaz contributed 51 runs off 53 deliveries, including a six and seven boundaries. Mohammad Nabi also played a vital role with 48 runs off 62 balls, featuring three fours. Mark Adair stood out with the ball for Ireland, claiming three wickets, while Barry McCarthy secured two dismissals. In their reply, Ireland suffered a collapse, losing their last seven wickets for only 26 runs as they were dismissed for 119.

Captain Paul Stirling and Curtis Campher showed promise with scores of 50 (from 53 balls) and 43 (from 63 balls) respectively. Mohammad Nabi claimed five wickets for Afghanistan, while Nangeyalia Kharote took four.

Afghanistan sealed the ODI series 2-0 with this victory. They secured a 35-run win in the opening match, boosted by a century from wicketkeeper-batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz and a four-wicket haul from Fazalhaq Farooqi.

The second ODI was called off due to rain. The teams will now compete in three T20Is, beginning at the same venue on Friday, March 15th.
