Former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar is the frontrunner to become Team India’s (Men’s) next Chief Selector. The post has been vacant since Chetan Sharma resigned following his controversial sting operation, earlier this year, in February 2023. Currently, the selection committee is led by Shiv Sunder Das, on an interim basis.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India recently invited applications for a candidate to lead the Men’s selection committee. The board mentioned the roles and responsibilities as well as the eligibility criteria. The deadline to submit the applications is June 30, 2023. Following this, the applicants will be screened and shortlisted. Then, there will be a personal interview with the shortlisted candidates.
“The CAC has the mandate to pick a selector who can stand up to the high profile team management in case there are differences,” said a BCCI official to PTI.
According to reports, former cricketer Ajit Agarkar is the frontrunner for the post. The fast bowler has played 221 International matches, taking 349 wickets, and scoring 1855 runs, including a century at The Lord’s. He was also part of the team that lifted the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa. Ajit Agarkar’s name has previously been linked with the selector’s role, however, he couldn’t get the job.
Amol Muzumdar and Tushar Arothe are in the fray for the Indian Women’s Team coaching role
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) is all set to select the next Indian women’s team head coach in Mumbai on Friday, June 30. The committee comprises of Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshana Naik will conduct the interviews. According to reports, Legendary cricketer Amol Muzumdar is the frontrunner in the race, along with Tushar Arothe. Meanwhile, former Durham coach Jon Lewis is also in the race,
“The interviews will be conducted on Friday,” said a BCCI official to PTI.
Amol Muzumdar was earlier part of the Rajasthan Royals and has also coached at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He was roped the Mumbai coach for the last two domestic seasons. Meanwhile, Tushar Arothe has worked with the Baroda Men’s and Women’s teams as well as the Indian women’s team.
