Afghanistan and Sri Lanka announce ODI squads for the upcoming series starting on 25 November 2022. Both teams will play each other in a 3-match series to be played on Lankan soil.

Hashmatullah Shahidi will lead the Afghanistan squad as Mohammad Nabi resigned after a disappointing T20 World Cup 2022.  The three ODI matches will be part of the ICC ODI Super League tournament. It looks like a solid unit as Afghanistan would look to gain important points for direct qualification for 50 over World Cup in 2023.

All-rounders Gulbdain Naib and Noor Ahmed have been recalled to the squad. Both were not a part of the ODI squad that took on Zimbabwe in June this year. Afghanistan has a mix of youth and experience that can challenge Sri Lanka.

Afghanistan is currently at the number 7 spot with 100 points. They have played so far 12 matches with 10 wins and 2 losses. It would be an important series for Afghanistan and Sri Lanka as 30 points are at stake.

All three matches would be played at Palleke International Stadium, Kandy. The first match would be played on the 25th, followed by 27th and the final ODI will take on the 30th of November 2022.

Afghanistan would be looking to show its skills against a strong Sri Lankan unit in its own den. The team has some decent batters that can change the course of the game with their batting abilities. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Rashid Khan are some top-quality spin bowlers that would create a big impact on the opposition batters.

Sri Lanka looks strong with Dasun Shanaka as the captain. They would be looking to make an impact as the Lankan lions are currently at the number 10 spot in ICC ODI Super League. It will be important series for Sri Lanka as they would need wins to qualify directly for World Cup 2023.
