Ambati Rayudu and Sheldon Jackson were involved in a verbal altercation during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match between Baroda and Saurashtra played at Holkar Stadium, Indore on 12th October 2022.
The incident took place in the ninth over during Saurashtra’s chase. Sheldon Jackson played according to his own pace which did not go well with experience Baroda captain Ambati Rayudu. Ambati Rayudu went with a verbal altercation as both umpires and teammates decided to separate.
Saurashtra captain Jaydev Unadkat won the toss and decided to field first. It was an impressive batting effort by Baroda batters as Mitesh Patel made 60 off just 35 balls and Vishnu Solanki made 51 off 33 balls helping Baroda to post 175 for 4 in 20 overs. Ambati Rayudu failed to contribute anything as she was dismissed without opening his account. Bhanu Paina scored a quickfire 26 off 10 balls to help Baroda post a competitive total.
Saurashtra batters struggled initially but Samarth Vyas played a special inning with 97 runs but did not take them across the line. Vyas looked in great touch putting enough pressure on the inexperienced Baroda bowling. Saurashtra won the match by 4 wickets in the final over to help them win their opening match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022/23.
Tarang Gohel and Cheteshwar Pujara fell cheaply as the Saurashtra batters struggled initially. Sheldon Jackson did not contribute many runs before Samarth Vyas showed his class by hitting big shots to put pressure back on the Baroda bowlers. Vyas smashed 97 off 52 balls with 5 fours and 9 huge sixes helping Saurashtra on brink of an impressive win.
Jay Gohil made 17 not out along with Chirag Jani helped Saurashtra win the match by 4 wickets with 2 balls to spare. Safvan Patel the impact player was smashed for 20 runs by Vyas to change the momentum of the game in favor of Saurashtra.
