Veteran Delhi Capitals spinner Amit Mishra received a warning from the umpire during their IPL 2021 game against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, Delhi got off to a flying start sending both the openers – Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal back to the hut early in the innings.
The incident took place just after the powerplay was completed. Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant introduced spinner Amit Mishra into the attack. Ahead of the first delivery, Mishra unknowingly applied saliva to shine the ball. Incidentally, ICC has prohibited using saliva on the ball in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic to stop spreading the deadly virus.
Amit Mishra receives warning for using saliva on the ball
Umpire Virender Sharma issued a warning to Amit Mishra and informed Pant before sanitising the ball to resume the play. The veteran spinner becomes the first cricketer to receive a formal warning from the umpires for using saliva in the ball in IPL 2021.
Players are given the first warning if they defy the saliva rules even inadvertently and then if they do it again, a 5-run penalty is imposed on the team to which the erring player belongs to.
Royal Challengers Bangalore are currently trailing at 60 for three in 8.3 overs with Rajat Patidar and AB de Villiers in the middle. Amit Mishra dismissed the dangerous-looking Glenn to put his side back on top of the game. So far, the veteran spinner has dismissed Maxwell for the fifth time in the history of IPL.
Meanwhile, the onus will now be on AB de Villiers to once again carry his side and guide them to a challenging total. Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are currently at the third spot will look to post a challenging total considering the dew will settle in as the game progresses.
