“Another MS Dhoni In Making” – Sunil Gavaskar Highly Commends Dhruv Jurel

Ex-India captain Sunil Gavaskar expresses the opinion that Dhruv Jurel, India’s emerging wicketkeeper-batsman, has the potential to become another MS Dhoni. Gavaskar made this significant commendation during the fourth Test between India and England in Ranchi, Jurel’s second appearance.

Gavaskar highlighted the 24-year-old’s wicketkeeping skills in the series, particularly praising the remarkable run-out he contributed to in Rajkot, dismissing Ben Duckett in the final innings.

“The presence of mind this young player displays makes me believe he’s the next MS Dhoni in the making,” Gavaskar said on commentary during the Test.

The young player really likes Dhoni. The BCCI quoted him talking happily about his chats with the captain who won the 2011 ODI World Cup before the Test.

“I was just watching him and I stood up and started thinking is this MS Dhoni standing in front of me,” he had said. My first interaction with him was in IPL 2021 which was my first season.”

“At that time, I was pinching myself to see whether it is a dream or not. My dream is to meet Mahi bhai, especially after the match, after an international game.”

Jurel mentioned that every time he talks to Dhoni, he picks up something new.

India relies on Dhruv Jurel’s batting

When Gavaskar made those remarks, Jurel was at the crease with a score of 53 (102). He achieved his maiden half-century in international cricket at a challenging moment when India was struggling at 177/7, chasing England’s 353.

Shoaib Bashir, with four wickets in a significant spell, had put India under pressure, and shortly after Jurel’s arrival, Tom Hartley dismissed Sarfaraz Khan.

However, the wicketkeeper exuded confidence and skillfully played out the day, receiving excellent support from Kuldeep Yadav. Their partnership continued on Sunday until Kuldeep was eventually dismissed, with the score at 253-8.

As of now, while writing this, Jurel stands strong at 80 (134), aiming to score swiftly against the English spinners despite Ben Stokes employing widespread field placements.
