Argentina’s Hernan Fennell Achieves A Rare T20I Double Hat-Trick

Argentina‘s Hernan Fennell joined an elite group of bowlers with a stunning performance against the Cayman Islands in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Americas Qualifier. The match took place on Sunday (December 15) in Buenos Aires. Fennell achieved the rare milestone of a T20I ‘double hat-trick.’

In the final over of the Cayman Islands’ innings, Fennell claimed four consecutive wickets to make history. He first dismissed Troy Taylor on the third ball of the over, followed by Alistair Ifill, Ronald Ebanks, and Alessandro Morris on the next three deliveries to complete the double hat-trick. Hernan Fennell became only the sixth bowler in T20I history to achieve the rare feat of a double hat-trick. By accomplishing this milestone, he joined an elite group of cricketers that includes Rashid Khan, Lasith Malinga, Curtis Campher, Jason Holder, and Waseem Yaqoob, who had previously achieved this remarkable feat in the format.

Despite his extraordinary performance, Fennell’s efforts could not secure a victory for Argentina. Chasing a target of 116 set by the Cayman Islands, Argentina fell short, getting bowled out for just 94 runs. They lost the match by a margin of 22 runs, making Fennell’s historic achievement a bittersweet moment for the team.

In addition to his extraordinary double hat-trick, 36-year-old Argentine pacer Hernan Fennell has earned a place on another exclusive list of bowlers who have taken multiple hat-tricks in T20I cricket.
