England managed to keep their hopes alive in the Ashes 2019 after Ben Stokes produced a sensational batting performance and made almost an impossible task possible and helped England win the 3rd Test by a solitary wicket and level the series 1-1. Meanwhile, former Aussie skipper Ian Chappell blamed Aussie skipper Tim Paine for the loss and further added that the wicket-keeper batsman lost his brain in the final hour of the match which eventually cost them the match.
Australia was on the verge of retaining the Ashes at the Headingley on Sunday. 73 runs were required when the No 11 batsman Jack Leach walked out in the middle. Australia were the firm favourites but Stokes had some other ideas. He smashed the Australian bowlers all around the park en route to his knock of 135 which saw the hosts winning the match by 1 wicket. It will surely remain etched in the memories of several English cricket fans especially after they were bowled out for just 67 in the 1st innings.

Meanwhile, there was a controversial decision given by onfield umpire Joel Wilson when he turned out a massive LBW appeal against Stokes from the bowling of Nathan Lyon with England needing 2 more to win. Australia didn’t have a review as replays showed the ball would have crashed onto the stumps. However, Australia would rue the chance themselves as Tim Paine took a dubious review just a few overs back.
The ball had clearly pitched outside the leg stump and anyone could have told that the ball was pitching outside the leg stump. Meanwhile, Ian Chappell stated that Paine got flustered in the last few overs which resulted in him taking the woeful review.
“When Leach got hit on the pad, clearly not out, by any stretch of the imagination, and the Australian”s reviewed it?” Chappell said on the website of broadcaster Channel Nine, which was covering the Test.
“That was the moment the situation got to them, and Tim Paine lost his brain. Everyone knows it”s way outside leg. Why would they go through with it (the review)?”
