The ICC’s 25% fine for England all-rounder Moeen Ali, according to former Australia spinner Brad Hogg, is a bit of an overspin. In the first Ashes Test match against Australia, Moeen was fined for violating the ICC Code of Conduct.
The former spinner questioned the ICC’s decision to impose a 25% fine on Twitter, arguing that Moeen could have left the field and covered up the spray but chose to do so out in the open.
When you consider that Moeen could have repeatedly left the ground while disguising the spray, he chose to do so out in the open instead. The 25% fine for this is a bit of an “overspin” on the situation given that he was only using it to stop his blister from getting worse. Fair play given the finger,” Hogg tweeted.

Following his initial retirement in 2021, Moeen was making his comeback to the Test side when he was found to have violated Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with acting in a way that is against the spirit of the game.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) confirmed in a statement that it had found Moeen guilty of violating Article 2.20 of the Code of Conduct.
Ahsan Raza and Marais Erasmus, the on-field umpires, made the accusation, with the assistance of third umpire Chris Gaffaney and fourth umpire Mike Burns.
According to the statement, Moeen Ali was found to have violated Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with acting in a way that is not in keeping with the spirit of the game.
Moeen was caught applying a drying agent to his bowling hand while fielding close to the boundary line during the 89th over of Australia’s first innings at Edgbaston.
The all-rounder’s disciplinary record was updated with one demerit point for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. In the last 24 months, Moeen had committed just one offence.
