Ashes 2023: Moeen Ali Breached ICC Code Of Conduct Charged Levishely For Violating

Moeen Ali, an all-rounder for England, was found guilty of violating the ICC code of conduct during the Edgbaston Test against Australia and was fined 25% of his match fees. The ICC Code of Conduct’s Article 2.20 was found to have been broken by Moeen.

For violating the ICC Code of Conduct during the first Ashes Test against Australia, England all-rounder Moeen Ali was fined 25% of his match fee.

Moeen was found to have violated Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with acting in a way that is against the spirit of the game, while making his second appearance for the Test team since his initial retirement in 2021.

Moeen was caught applying a drying agent to his bowling hand while fielding close to the boundary line during the 89th over of Australia’s first innings at Edgbaston.

The all-rounder’s disciplinary record was updated with one demerit point for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. In the previous 24 months, this was Moeen’s first offense.

There was no need for a formal hearing because Moeen Ali admitted to the offense and agreed to Andy Pycroft’s suggested punishment from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

The Match Referee examined the situation and found that the cream was used on Moeen’s finger to dry Ali’s hands, not as a synthetic substance to change the condition of the ball as stated in clause 41.3 of the ICC playing conditions regarding unfair play.

Given that the ball’s condition had not changed, the Match Referee imposed a Level 1 sanction.

In addition to third umpire Chris Gaffney and fourth umpire Mike Burns, the accusation was made by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Marais Erasmus.

A level 1 violation of the ICC Code of Conduct can result in a number of sanctions, such as an official reprimand, fines that can equal up to 50% of the player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points. During the Test at Edgbaston, Moeen took two wickets and scored 18 runs.
