Moeen Ali’s replacement in England’s Ashes squad is 18-year-old all-rounder Rehan Ahmed. Rehan, an 18-year-old leg-spinner, has been called up to England’s men’s Test squad, highlighting their concerns regarding the spin-bowling stocks.
Rehan, a County Championship player for Leicestershire, gained attention last December in the final game of England’s tour of Pakistan and he became the youngest player to be in the England Test team.

Rehan Ahmed was chosen to the team to fill in for all-rounder Moeen Ali. He struggled to bowl during Australia’s second innings of the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston due to a blister that formed on his spinning finger.
After giving up the red-ball format in 2021 to concentrate on limited-overs cricket, Moeen was inserted into the Test lineup for his first first-class appearance in two years, which led to that injury.
Moeen was used early in both innings of the Edgbaston Test. Australia won by two wickets, despite not bowling any extended red-ball spells. He finished with respectable figures of 3-204 from a taxing 47 overs.

Rehan Ahmed has only taken six wickets in his seven county matches for Leicestershire so far this summer, with his best figures being 3-89 and an unfavourable average of 67.66.
However, he has a bat rating of 38.45, 4 half-centuries, and a highest total of 90 runs in 423 runs scored. In the final leg-spinner to compete in an Ashes Test, England’s Mason Crane took the field in Sydney’s fifth match of the 2017–18 Ashes series. He finished with 1–193 from 48 overs in Australia’s sole batting innings.
