The finger of England all-rounder Moeen Ali won’t be any better in a week, according to former Australia batter Ian Healy. The second Ashes 2023 Test will take place at Lord’s on June 28. Australia defeated England at Edgbaston.
Healy said Moeen won’t be able to recover from his finger injury in a week while appearing on the SEN podcast “Dwayne’s World.” During Australia’s first innings of the first Test at Edgbaston, Moeen sustained an injury.
In a week, Moeen Ali won’t have improved. The skin is completely off, including the top of his spinning finger. I therefore do not see how I can practice during the week and have that heal and be pain-free by next Wednesday.
Jack Dawson and Adil Rashid were mentioned as possible Moeen replacements, and he insisted that he couldn’t watch Moeen play with confidence at Lord’s due to his injury.
“Stick with just Joe Root. Liam Dawson is a replacement type. Adil Rashid is a leg-spinner. Because I don’t see how Moeen could play with confidence again the following Wednesday, I believe that would be a good test of their confidence to see how they proceed in replacing him.”
After being found guilty of violating Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with acting in a manner that is against the spirit of the game, Moeen was charged by the ICC.
At Edgbaston, the incident happened in the 89th over of Australia’s first innings, when Moeen was seen fielding close to the boundary and using a drying agent on his bowling hand.
The all-rounder’s disciplinary record was updated with one demerit point due to a Level 1 ICC Code of Conduct violation. In the previous 24 months, this was Moeen’s first offense.
