Stuart Broad picks 600 Test wickets

Veteran England pacer Stuart Broad achieved a major milestone as he joined the list of bowlers to pick 600 Test wickets on the first day of the fourth Test match played at Old Trafford, Manchester on 19th July 2023.

Before this match, Broad picked 598 wickets in his Test career. He got the early breakthrough dismissing Usman Khawaja with lovely delivery. The England bowlers kept picking wickets with David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith getting starts but not able to convert them into big scores.

Broad picked the wicket of Travis Head soon after the tea break with a sharp catch by Zak Crawley to join the list of elite bowlers to grab 600 wickets in the longer format.

It was a superb bowling effort as the pitch had some seam movement and kept putting pressure on the Australian batters with discipline lines and lengths making life tough. It was a remarkable performance by the England bowlers to restrict Australia to 299 for 8.

He picked up 2 wickets giving away 68 runs in his 14 overs. Broad troubled the Australian batters and went past the Australian batters’ edge.

Stuart Broad’s Performance in Test Cricket

Stuart Broad has been the backbone of England’s bowling for quite a long time. He made his Test debut on 9th December 2007 at SSC, Colombo versus Sri Lanka. His performance especially in England conditions shows his ability to put the opponent batters under pressure.

He was at his lethal best with 9 wickets in the match and was awarded the player of the match. Broad became the 2nd pacer after James Anderson to pick 600 Test wickets.
