Ashes 2023: [WATCH] Jonny Bairstow Carries Pitch Invader Off The Field During Second Test

The second Test of the 2023 Ashes series between England and Australia got underway on Wednesday, June 28 at The Lord’s in London. The match got off to a dramatic start as Protestors invaded the pitch just after the first over was bowled by James Anderson. The incident caused disruption, forcing the match to be delayed by a few minutes.

Before the start of the second over, two protestors from the activist group Just Stop Oil ran onto the ground. One of them was stopped from reaching the pitch by Ben Stokes and David Warner. Meanwhile, the other protestor was picked up and lifted off the field by Jonny Bairstow. The protestors were then taken away by the police. Several images and videos of Bairstow lifting the protestor off the field have gone viral on social media.

The groundstaff swept up and blew off the orange powder paint that the protestors spilt on the outfield. Meanwhile, Jonny Bairstow ran off the field to the dressing room to change into a fresh set of whites. The play was resumed after Jonny Bairstow came back on the field. It was delayed by around six minutes.

Team India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shared a funny take on the incident. Sharing the video of Jonny Bairstow lifting the invader off the field, he wrote, Good start to the 2nd test. Bairstow has done some heavy lifting already #Ashes2023″

Usman Khawaja and David Warner get lucky in the first hour

Khawaja was dropped by Joe Root in the slips cordon off James Anderson in the fifth over. Anderson bowled a full delivery on the middle and leg stump. The ball shaped across, and Khawaja nicked it but was dropped by Joe Root, as the ball went low towards him. David Warner also got a lucky reprieve as Ollie Pope failed to hold onto a catch off Stuart Broad.
