Ashes 2023: [WATCH] Star England Batter Falls Short Of Century As Todd Murphy Rattles The Stumps

England batter Joe Root continued his good run in the 2023 Ashes series in the fifth and final Test on Saturday, July 29 at the Kennington Oval in London. His valuable contribution put the hosts in a commanding position in the Test. However, he fell short of yet another terrific century as he was dismissed by Australia’s off-spinner Todd Murphy.

Joe Root walked out to bat at number four after Zak Crawley’s dismissal. He put together a good partnership with Ben Stokes. The duo together added 73 runs for the third-wicket stand. Root also had a good partnership with Jonny Bairstow, putting on 110 runs. However, he couldn’t get to a well-deserved century in the innings.

In the sixty-sixth over, Todd Murphy bowled a flighted full delivery, which was wide of the crease. Joe Root got forward to push through the off-side. However, he got a thick edge on the ball, which kept low. There was a massive gap between the bat and the pad. The ball went on to rattle the stumps. Root had to walk back to the hut for 91 runs off 106 deliveries, with eleven boundaries and a six.
