Australian wicket-keeper batter Alex Carey revealed Virat Kohli and Steve Smith’s advice, which helped him to improve his batting during the ICC World Test Championship final. Alex Carey played a vital role in both innings of the summit clash for Australia, as they won their maiden World Test Championship title.
Alex Carey adopted unorthodox cricketing shots during the matches earlier this year in the subcontinent. He attempted to play sweep and reverse-sweep shots. However, he was dismissed four times while attempting the reverse-sweep shot. The left-handed batter revealed that he contemplated curtailing playing shot after Virat Kohli and Steve Smith’s advice.
Speaking to the news agency Australian Associated Press, Carey revealed why he began avoiding the reverse sweep. He said,
“There was no need to play that at The Oval in the first innings. When you have Virat Kohli and Steve Smith saying, ‘What are you doing that for?’ you probably listen to them.”
Alex Carey slammed 48 and 66 runs in the ICC World Test Championship final. He continued the good run in the 2023 Ashes. The wicket-keeper batter slammed a fifty in the first innings, followed by a 20-run knock in the second. In seven Test matches this year, he has slammed 256 runs, including a couple of fifties.
Pat Cummins leads Australia to a memorable win
Australian skipper Pat Cummins played a terrific hand to power his team to a two-wicket win over England in the first Test of the 2023 Ashes. He came out to bat when Australia was at 209 runs for the loss of seven wickets. He played a blinder, smashing four boundaries and two sixes to score 44 runs and lead Australia to a thrilling win.
“Honestly, pretty good. That wicket didn’t have too many demons and Carey was batting beautifully,” said Cummins.
Pat Cummins got a crucial partnership with Nathan Lyon. The duo added 55 runs for the ninth-wicket stand. Talking about the off-spinner, he said, “He’s huge, in both innings he is putting down one end. He is an absolute superstar, he is calm and goes about his work. He is a captain’s dream.
