Ashes 2023: “Winning The Urn Would Be Phenomenal” – Pat Cummins

Australian skipper Pat Cummins wants to end the ongoing 2023 Ashes on a winning note. He expressed that defeating England in the fifth Test and taking the Ashes urn back home will be a phenomenal achievement. Australia has retained the Ashes urn as the five-match Test series stands at 2-1 after the fourth Test.

Australia won the first two Test matches of the 2023 Ashes series. They defeated England by two wickets at Birmingham and followed it up with a 43-run win at Lord’s. England made a comeback winning the Leeds test. However, the fourth Test at Manchester ended in a draw, with Australia retaining the urn. Skipper Pat Cummins expressed that it’s been a great tour, and they would like to go back home winning the Ashes urn.

“If we win this one and you look back, it’s been an incredible tour over here really. We’ve played five games, we’ve won three and only lost one. It’s already a fantastic tour. But to go home, winning the urn would be phenomenal. It’s a final thing to tick off the list of titles to win for a few of the guys, who, again, you never know if they’ll get another chance to do it. So, we’ve said the whole time, our aim is to come here and win the Ashes and that’s the opportunity ahead of us,” said Pat Cummins.

We expect him to be right: Mitchell Starc

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc is battling with a shoulder injury. He suffered the injury during the fourth Test at Old Trafford, Manchester. Australian skipper Pat Cummins expressed that Starc is still far from totally recovering from the injury. However, he added that the team expects him to be ready for the fifth Test that begins on Thursday, July 27 at Kennington Oval in London.

“Yeah, he’s got something going on there. But he’s come out and bowled. We weren’t really sure about it. Yeah, he’s got a history with it right now. At the MCG (when he’d injured his finger), didn’t think he was going to bowl and he came out and his seam position was perfect. Probably helps his bowling. We expect him to be right as well. He didn’t do much today but will give it another look tomorrow,” said Pat Cummins.
