Whenever a question arises regarding captaincy in world cricket, one of the first names to pop up on the chart is MS Dhoni. The mastermind from Ranchi has led India to victory in all possible ICC events and continued his incredible success in the Indian Premier League as well. Much to the same, Rohit Sharma garnered huge name with his 4 IPL trophies as skipper. Meanwhile, Ashish Nehra has picked his choice in between them.
Dhoni has enjoyed massive success in the IPL with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He has led CSK to three IPL titles in 2010, 2011 and 2018 and the team has managed to qualify for the playoffs in every season that they have taken part in the league. CSK is the only team in the history of the competition to have qualified for the playoffs in every season.
On the other hand, after moving from Deccan Chargers to Mumbai Indians in 2011, Rohit Sharma was elevated to the captaincy in mid-2013 by the Mumbai-based franchise. The move paid instant dividends as the franchise won its first-ever IPL title in the same season. He has won it four times.
I have played the maximum under MS Dhoni – Ashish Nehra
However, when Ashish Nehra was asked to pick the greatest captain of all-time in IPL, the former fast bowler chose MS Dhoni over Rohit Sharma. Nehra stated that he has played more under Dhoni than Rohit, which is why he chose him as the greatest of all-time.
“My pick for the greatest captain is MS Dhoni, under whose captaincy I have played the maximum, be it for the national team or in the IPL. I haven’t played under Rohit, so I choose Dhoni,” Ashish Nehra told Star Sports.
