After a long time, the Bangalore franchise reached the final and hopes were pretty much high for the fans, as they got settled lineup in the tournament. But, one bad day at the office for Shane Watson completely changed the scenario for RCB, as he gave away 61 runs in his four overs and dismissed at the wrong time.
Despite the ordinary show, Shane Watson was given the run in the team but once again he gave poor returns for the franchise. It led to his ouster from the franchise before Chennai Super Kings bidding for him in the IPL 2018 edition, which was a comeback year for CSK.

It was the year, which showed Shane Watson in his beast mode. Redeeming himself from the past, he slammed an unbeaten 117 off 57 balls to help his team chase down the target of 179 with 9 balls to spare against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Watson recalled is redemption knock for CSK in IPL 2018 final which helped him revive his IPL career. Speaking of the same, Shane Watson explained how he controlled his nerves in the final and became a better player after the loss against the same franchise in 2016.
“Hundred in the final for CSK was like icing on the cake. Two years before, I had played in the final for RCB, and even though I gave my all, I had an absolute shocker. Because of the overs that I bowled and at the position where I batted, towards the middle overs in the back of the innings, I absolutely stuffed it,” Watson told Cricket.com.au on Unplayable Podcast.
“So, I had that on my back for the next couple of years. When I got a chance to play a final for CSK, I wanted to make amends. I thought I won’t try harder but will use what I learnt from technical and mental perspectives. I need to be in better space – to try and perform better – hopefully, play a match-winning inning,” he added.
Unfortunately, Watson struggled to find his rhythm with the bat in IPL 2019. But, he stepped up when it required the most and played a brilliant knock of 59-ball 80 for CSK in the final against Mumbai Indians (MI).
However, his efforts were not enough as the MS Dhoni-led side lost the thrilling summit clash by just 1 run with Mumbai bagging an unprecedented fourth title.
