Renowned Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar expressed that rain prevented Pakistan from amassing a substantial run total against India in the Super 4 encounter of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 in Colombo on Sunday, September 10.

It’s worth noting that the match was interrupted by rain and is scheduled to resume on Monday, designated as a reserve day. Shoaib Akhtar was critical of Babar Azam’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss.

Importantly, Babar’s choice backfired as Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma formed a formidable 121-run opening partnership, providing the Indian team with an excellent start in the game. The Indian captain was dismissed at 56, while Gill was removed shortly after reaching 58 runs.

Akhtar, who made the journey to Colombo to witness the intense India-Pakistan match, posted a video on his social media account, subtly mocking Babar’s decision. He eagerly anticipated the match on the reserve day, expressing optimism that Pakistan would perform better.

Monday’s game is likely to be affected by rain once more, and if it’s cancelled, both teams will be given one point each

“Well. I don’t see this starting again. Colombo ki baarish is crazy,”  the 48-year-old captioned tha post.“Hey guys, it’s me Shoaib, match dekhne aaya tha, hum sare fans bhi wait kar rahe hai, Indians bhi Pakistani bhi. Lekin barish ne bacha liya humein, finally! Pehle India phass gya tha humare aagey, barish ne bacha lia. Aaj hum phas gaye the India ke samne, shukr hai barish ne bach lia. (I came to watch the match, we are all waiting, Indian and Pakistani fans.”

“Rain saved us, rain saved India the other day, but today rain saved us!). Hope match can finish off and we’ll be able to resume this time tomorrow, and by making a wise decision not to bowl first,” Akhtar was heard saying in the video.

India had scored 147/2 in 24.1 overs when the match was halted due to rain, with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul batting. There’s a forecast for further rain disruption on Monday, and if the match is abandoned, both teams will receive one point each.
