The Indian Cricket Team registered an emphatic 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the finals of Asia Cup 2023 played at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on 17th September 2023. It was a superb bowling effort by Mohammed Siraj picking up 6 wickets bundling out hosts for 50 runs and chasing down the target with ease.

Rohit Sharma led side came to the Asia Cup with many questions and each player had delivered. Indian team started the group stage with 1 point each against Pakistan before thrashing Nepal by 10 wickets.

India thrashed Pakistan by 228 runs in the first Super 4 match before registering 41 41-run victory over Sri Lanka to qualify for the finals. Their only loss came against Bangladesh where they rested a few of their key players.

  1. Shubman Gill

The dashing opener Shubman Gill became the leading run-getter in Asia Cup 2023. He began the tournament with a disappointing performance against Pakistan with 10 runs. Gill then showed batting abilities as he remained not out on 67 and helped Team India win the match by 10 wickets.

He looked in sensational touch during the first Super 4 match against Pakistan scoring quickfire 58 runs and putting on 121 runs for opening wicket along with Rohit Sharma. The opener looked impressive in the next match against Sri Lanka but was bowled by Dunith Wellage.

Shubman Gill showed his class with a brilliant 121 in the final Super 4 match against Bangladesh. With wickets falling on the other end, Gill looked special but could not take India across the line.

With just 51 runs required to win in the finals against Lanka, Gill looked in decent touch remaining not out on 27 off 19 deliveries helping Team India register a thumping 10-wicket win. He ended with 302 runs from 6 innings including 1 century and 2 half-centuries to his name at an average of 68.75.

  1. Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav was the star of the show for India in the Asia Cup 2023 tournament. He bowled with great control putting batters under pressure with his variations.

He could not pick any wickets in the match against Nepal. Kuldeep Yadav rattled the Pakistani batting lineup with figures of 5 for 25 in 8 overs. It was a remarkable spell by the left-arm chinamen bowler dismissing them for just 128 helping Team India register 228 runs victory.

Kuldeep Yadav came up with another special performance with 4 for 43 against Sri Lanka. He grabbed the wickets of Samawickrama and Charith Asalanaka before cleaning up Kasun Rajitha and Matheesha Pathirana to help Team India register 41 41-run victory.

For his brilliant performances with the ball, Kuldeep Yadav was named the Player of the Series award and would be looking to continue his performances.

  1. Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj had an outstanding performance in the Asia Cup 2023. He went for runs in the second match against Nepal but picked up 3 wickets. Siraj showed his class with some brilliant bowling efforts in the Super 4 match against Pakistan but could not grab any wickets.

He produced a lovely spell in the next match against Sri Lanka with disciplined lines and lengths. Siraj picked up the wicket of Dimuth Karaunate making the life of openers very tough.

Siraj demolished the Sri Lankan batting order in the finals of Asia Cup 2023. He took the wickets of Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samawickrama, Charith Asalanaka, and Dhanajaya de Silva in one over to put the Lankan batters under immense pressure. Siraj then produced a peach getting rid of Captain Shanaka.

His dream bowling continued with a lovely delivery to dismiss Kusal Mendis. He ended with figures of 6 for 21 in 7 overs. For his match-winning efforts, Siraj was named the player of the match award. Siraj finished as the 2nd leading wicket-taker in the tournament at an economy of 4.63 runs per over but 6 for 21 helped him to go past Dunith Wellage.
