Asia Cup 2023: [WATCH] Rishabh Pant Makes An Appearance At Team India’s Training Camp In Alur

In a surprising move, Rishabh Pant paid an unexpected visit to Team India’s pre-Asia Cup camp in Alur, Karnataka. The Indian squad gathered a few days back and is in the last stages of preparation for the upcoming continental championship.

Having experienced a serious car accident last year, Pant is currently in the process of making a comeback. Currently, he is in the process of rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman journeyed from Bengaluru to Alur to join his teammates before they departed for Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup.

In a video posted on the Indian Cricket Team’s Instagram account, Rishabh Pant was observed engaging in friendly conversations and sharing a moment of laughter with his fellow players. This marks Pant’s initial appearance alongside the Indian cricketers since his car accident on the early morning of December 30th.

“Look who joined #TeamIndia’s training session in Alur 😃 Hello there @rishabpant 👋,” they captioned the post.

Notably, Pant’s recovery is surpassing initial expectations. He’s resumed batting practice in the nets and is projected to need a few more months before returning to competitive play.

Chances are high that the Delhi-native player will be absent from the ICC ODI World Cup on home turf, commencing on October 5. He’s already been absent for crucial matches for the national team, including the ICC World Test Championship final, where India was defeated by Australia.

“Comeback is quite far away as of now” -Aakash Chopra’s thoughts on Rishabh Pant

According to former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra, Rishabh Pant will need additional time to fully regain his form on the field, even as he faces bowlers delivering at 140 kph.

“Rishabh Pant had posted a video where Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul were seen batting after a long time,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel. “Now his videos have come from which it seems he is coming back. He has started batting against the bowling machine. He has started playing against 140 kph but Pant’s comeback is quite far away as of now.”

Pant’s most recent appearance was in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh last year, where India secured a 2-0 victory.
