Asia Cup To Take Place In Dubai, Confirms BCCI President Sourav Ganguly

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has confirmed that the upcoming edition of Asia Cup will take place in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. This comes only a few days before the Asian Cricket Council meeting (ACC), scheduled on March 3 (Tuesday).

Incidentally, Asia Cup 2020 was originally scheduled to take place in Pakistan. However, India weren't willing to travel to Pakistan citing the political tension between the two neighbouring countries which has hit a new low in recent time post the Pulwama terror attack in 2019. The BCCI had earlier stated that it didn't have a problem with Pakistan hosting the Asia Cup, as long as it was held at a neutral venue.

Since 2012-13, India and Pakistan haven't played each other in bilateral series owing to political tensions between the two nations. They have, however, played against each other in major ICC events as well as the Asia Cup. Meanwhile, The competition between nations based in Asia, which is played one every two years, hasn't been hosted by Pakistan since 2008.

Sri Lanka hosted the 2010 edition while the next three editions were held in Bangladesh. The last Asia Cup tournament took place in the UAE. Meanwhile, since 2016, the Asia Cup has been on a rotation basis – alternating between T20Is and ODIs. The 2020 edition set to be a T20 tournament in preparation for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup later this year.

After a lot dilemma over the hosting of the upcoming Asia Cup, Sourav Ganguly confirmed the venue for the upcoming mega event. This will certainly be great news for the cricket fans from across the borders as they can once again witness a potential India-Pakistan in the near future. 

"Asia Cup will be held in Dubai and both India and Pakistan will play," Ganguly confirmed earlier today.
