New Zealand made a strong comeback against Australia on the 2nd day of the 2nd test match at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on 9th March 2024.

Australia began the 2nd day on 124 for 4 with Nathan Lyon and Marnus Labuschagne at the crease. The nighwatchman Lyon frustrated the New Zealand bowlers before captain Henry got the breakthrough grabbing the wicket of Lyon as Mitchell took a sharp catch at slips.

Henry produced a peach to dismiss Mitchell Marsh via review for LBW. The umpire gave not out but on review, it was overturned to out. Right before the stroke of lunch break, Henry grabbed the wicket of Labuschagne with a stunning catch by Glenn Phillips to bring back New Zealand into the contest.

After the lunch break, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc added valuable runs before Henry got rid of Starc with an easy catch to Blundell. He then picked the wicket of Australian captain Cummins via review for LBW. The umpire gave it not out, but on review, it was overturned to out. Henry was brilliant with his line and lengths not allowing the Australian batters to score runs easily. His figures of 7 for 67 in 23 overs helped New Zealand bowl out Australia for 256.

Henry had a dream outing on the first day with the wicket of Usman Khawaja bowled around the legs. He then produced a peach to dismiss Cameron Green. The pace bowler then took the wicket of Travis Head with a good catch by Tom Blundell.

New Zealand fight back with the bat

New Zealand fought back with the bat as they ended the 2nd day at 134 for 2. Will Young was dismissed without contributing many runs. Kane Williamson and Tom Latham steadied the ship with some lovely shots keeping the scoreboard ticking.

After the tea break, Williamson and Latham made the batting look easy keeping the scoreboard ticking. Playing his 100th test, Williamson completed his fifty and was dismissed by Cummins. Williamson and Latham added 105 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Latham and Rachin Ravindra ensured that New Zealand ended with a lead of 40 runs. It promises to be an exciting 3rd day with all things to play.
