Australia named an unchanged playing XI for the third Test match against Pakistan to be played at Sydney Cricket Ground, SCG from 3rd January onwards. The hosts have taken a 2-0 lead in the series after 79 runs victory in the 2nd Test played at MCG.
David Warner will play his last Test match and will open with Usman Khawaja. Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, and Alex Carey comprise middle-order batters.
The pace bowling options comprise of captain Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood while Nathan Lyon is the lone spin bowler. It promises to be an exciting encounter as Australia would look to end the series on a high note with whitewash.
“Normally each summer there’s something that pops up. But all three of us are fresh. Even the way this summer is spread out a bit more, there are two Tests on, then a bit of a gap; then two Tests, then a bit of a gap; then New Zealand. We’ll give it a chance. It’s all gone smoothly so far,” Cummins was quoted as saying by ICC.
Australia registered an emphatic 79-run victory in the 2nd Test match at MCG. The hosts looked in deep trouble in the 2nd innings being reduced to 16 for 4 before Mitchell Marsh and Steve Smith put on 153 runs for the 5th wicket putting the Pakistan team on the back foot.
Pat Cummins looked impressive with some lovely bowling picking 5 wickets in both innings and a match-winning effort in the 2nd innings ending the partnership between Mohammed Rizwan and Salman Agha.
Australia moved up in the 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship cycle and would look to continue their winning momentum during the 3rd match at Sydney Cricket Ground, SCG.
It promises to be an exciting 3rd encounter as Australia will make sure that they dominate Pakistan in the 3rd Test and whitewash them with brilliant performances.
