During Day 3 of the Test match between Australia and West Indies in Adelaide, star Australian batsman Steve Smith demonstrated sportsmanship by bending down to tie Shamar Joseph’s shoelaces.

Australia secured a resounding 10-wicket victory over West Indies on Day 3 of the first Test at Adelaide Oval on January 19. With West Indies resuming their second innings at 76/3, they were eventually dismissed for 120. The Australians efficiently chased down a target of 26 in just 6.4 overs.

In the 34th over of West Indies’ second innings, a heartwarming moment of sportsmanship unfolded. Debutant Joseph, batting at 11, requested Smith to tie his shoelaces, and the former Australian captain graciously obliged.

Joseph faced the fate of being the final dismissal in West Indies’ second innings, getting stumped for 15 off 12. He attempted to dance down the track to a tossed-up delivery from experienced off-spinner Nathan Lyon but was completely deceived by the flight.

In West Indies’ second innings, only Kirk McKenzie (26) and Justin Greaves (24) managed to reach double figures. Australia’s pacer Josh Hazlewood played a pivotal role, securing a five-wicket haul (5/35) to complement his four-wicket performance in the first innings.

Shamar Joseph claimed Steve Smith’s wicket with his debut delivery in Test cricket

In reference to West Indies’ newcomer pacer Joseph, he managed to dismiss Steve Smith with his inaugural delivery in Test cricket.

During Australia’s first innings, the 24-year-old compelled the seasoned batsman to engage with a well-pitched delivery outside off, resulting in an edge that was securely caught in the slip cordon.

Smith departed for 12 runs off 26 balls while opening the innings in the Test, succeeding David Warner’s retirement from the red-ball format.

Joseph had a noteworthy Test debut despite West Indies facing challenges as a team. Following his achievement as the 23rd player in Test history, and the second from West Indies, to secure a wicket with his first ball, the right-arm pacer also dismissed Marnus Labuschagne for 10.

His memorable Test debut extended to claiming the wickets of Cameron Green (14), Mitchell Starc (10), and Nathan Lyon (24), completing a noteworthy five-wicket haul.

In addition to his bowling prowess, the young West Indies fast bowler contributed 36 off 41 in his team’s first innings. Batting at No. 11, he struck three fours and a six before being stumped off Lyon.
