Australia announce test squad for series against NZ

Queensland Cricket’s relocation to Victoria Park in Brisbane, part of its Olympic preparations for 2032, is set to commence later this year. Meanwhile, the state will play a major role in hosting international cricket during the winter months. Western Australia is also poised for a significant summer, hosting three major fixtures.

At the same time, Cricket Australia is focusing on northern regions as potential hosts for winter series over the next two years, aligning with broader Olympic ambitions. Cricket is likely to be included in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, boosting Queensland after losing its traditional first Test spot. It will feature at the 2028 LA Olympics as the ICC targets the North American market.

IOC President Kirsty Coventry, with strong Brisbane ties, recently met ICC Chairman Jay Shah. Queensland Premier David Crisafulli hopes the Gabba will host the Olympic cricket final. Australia will face South Africa in white-ball matches this August in Darwin, Cairns, and Mackay.

Next winter, Darwin and Mackay will host Australia A games, seen as a lead-up to a possible Bangladesh Test series in August 2026, solidifying northern venues as key winter cricket hubs. With the Olympics set for mid-winter, northern venues are expected to host cricket during the Games.

Cricket Australia’s new schedule spans 11 cities and 14 venues nationwide for the first time in 17 years. Perth will host the Ashes opener on November 21, preceded by three India ODIs in October and a five-match T20I series, including an MCG clash before the Victoria Derby.

The season ends with a historic Australia-India women’s Test at the WACA from March 6-9, following a multi-format series starting with a T20 at the SCG in February.

Greenberg Confident of Another Thrilling Summer of Cricket

After a record-breaking season featuring the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and a historic pink-ball women’s Test at the MCG, CA CEO Todd Greenberg expects the momentum to continue.

“We’re excited for another incredible season, featuring the Ashes, India’s men’s and women’s teams, and white-ball matches in northern Australia against South Africa,” Greenberg said.

Last summer saw record-breaking attendance, viewership, and digital engagement, and Greenberg believes this trend will continue. He also thanked government, venue, and broadcast partners for their support. Following criticism over understrength squads in last year’s Pakistan series, next summer has a longer break before the Ashes. The first Test in Perth starts 13 days after India’s final white-ball match at the Gabba on November 8.

The Gabba will host a day-night Test, with three day-night Sheffield Shield games also planned early in the season. The Ashes begins in Perth 13 days after India’s final white-ball match at the Gabba on November 8. The Gabba will also host a day-night Test, with three early-season Sheffield Shield pink-ball games planned.

Australia’s women will compete in the ODI World Cup in India in October before touring the West Indies for a multi-format series, including a Test. The BBL and WBBL will follow similar schedules, with the BBL final likely on Australia Day weekend, coinciding with the Australian Open’s mid-tournament phase.
