The World number 1 ranked ODI team, England whitewashed Australia by 1 wicket in the final One day international played at Old Trafford, Manchester on Sunday. It was a great performance by Eoin Morgan led side who restricted Australia to a modest total. Chasing the target, Jos Buttler played a blinder of innings to help England win the match.

Australia captain Tim Paine won the toss and decided to bat first. Aaron Finch and Travis Head got the team off to a flying start adding 60 runs for the first wicket in 6.3 overs. Moeen Ali dismissed Finch for 22 and Marcus Stoinis in the same over. At the end of 10 overs, Australia were 79 for 2.

After the power play overs, Travis Head reached his half-century off 36 balls. Alex Carey scored 44 off 40 balls and added 59 runs for the 6^th wicket with Darcy Short was aggressive and remained not out on 47.  Australia kept losing wickets and was bowled out for 205 in 34.4 overs. For England, Moeen Ali was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 46.

Chasing 206 runs to win, England lost 4 early wickets of Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root and captain Eoin Morgan to leave hosts in big trouble at 27 for 4. At the end of 10 overs, England scored 34 for 4.

After the power play overs, Jos Buttler steadied the innings as wickets fell at the other end. Buttler reached his half-century off 74 balls and added 81 runs for the 9^th wicket with Adil Rashid. Jos Buttler played a match-winning knock reaching his century off 117 balls. England won the match by 1 wicket and became the 2^nd team to whitewash Australia in 5 matches ODI series.

England dominated Australia in the entire series. In the first ODI match, England scrapped through with a 3 wicket win at Oval, London on 13^th June, crushed Australia by 38 runs in the 2^nd ODI at Cardiff on 16^th June, won by 242 runs at Trent Bridge on 19^th June after England scored 481 runs in the 3^rd ODI, won by 6 wickets at Durham on 21^st June.

England is performing brilliantly in ODI format. In the 2004 ODI series, England whitewashed Zimbabwe. The hosts England will take on India in 3 T20I’s, 3 ODI’s from 3^rd July onwards.

South Africa became the first team to whitewash Australia 5-0

South Africa became the first team to whitewash Australia in 5 matches ODI bilateral series during the 2016 series played in South Africa.

In the first match played at Super Sports Park, Centurion on 30^th September, the hosts South Africa chased down the target of 295 losing just 4 wickets with 82 balls to spare.

South Africa continued their good form in the 2^nd One day international played at Johannesburg on 2^nd October 2016. The hosts South Africa posted 361 for 6 in 50 overs. Australia was bowled out for 219 giving South Africa 142 runs.

The third ODI was a high scoring thriller at Durban on 5^th October 2016. Australia posted a massive total of 371 for 6 in 50 overs. The hosts South Africa won the match by 4 wickets with 4 balls to spare.

On 9^th October 2016 at Port Elizabeth,  South Africa won the 4^th ODI by 6 wickets. Australia was bowled out for 167 in 36.4 overs. The hosts South Africa chased down the target in 87 balls to spare.

The South African team did not let the momentum slip and became the first team to whitewash Australia in a 5 match bilateral series. The 5^th match of the series was played on 12^th October at Cape Town. South Africa posted 327 for 8 in 50 overs. Chasing 328, Australia were bowled out for 296 in 48.2 overs.

Australia had a strong batting line up comprising of David Warner, captain Steve Smith, Travis Head, Bailey, Mitchell Marsh. South Africa smashed Australia in all 5 one day internationals.
