India won the MCG Test by 8 wickets with Ajinkya Rahane fittingly hitting the winning run to help India draw level in the series. The series is now one-all as we await to know the venue for the third test. Ajinkya Rahane, both for his leadership and batting was adjudged the Man of the Match in the game. This happened after India were thoroughly outplayed in the first Test in Adelaide. More about the Day 4 report in detail below.

Australia were bowled out for 200 after resuming their innings on 133 on the morning of day 4. They were bowled out inside the first session as Mohammed Siraj took a total of five wickets in the game on his debut. Siraj dismissed Cameron Green (45) to end a 57-run stand with Pat Cummins for the seventh wicket.

Jasprit Bumrah then accounted for Cummins on 22 as Nathan Lyon (3)and Josh Hazlewood were the other two wickets to fall in the Australia innings. Once they were dismissed, India needed 70 to win the second Test and draw level in the series.

India win MCG Test by 8 wickets

India with Shubman Gill (35) and Ajinkya Rahane (27) chased down the target in the most efficient of manners. Gill looked like he belonged to the big stage as the experience of Rahane helped him to blossom. Mayank Agarwal did not have the best of test matches as he failed in both the innings. He was out for five in the second innings after scoring a duck in the first. Cheteshwar Pujara too fell for a low score of 3.

In the end, it was Gill and Rahane’s unbeaten 51-run stand that saw India through and helped them level terms in the series. Rahane credited all the team members for putting in their bit behind this historic win in many ways.

The venue for the next Test match is yet to be decided, however, this win will give the visitors huge confidence especially after whatever happened in the first Test.
