Team India have made a strong start to the day-night Test against England at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. After Ishant Sharma removed Dom Sibley, Axar Patel dismissed the dangerous Jonny Bairstow for a duck of the very first delivery of his spell.
Meanwhile, India came into this match with two changes – bringing in Washington Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah. He will pair up with Ishant Sharma, who is playing his 100th Test match. On other hand, England read the pitch otherwise fielding three seamers for the pink-ball Test.
England skipper Joe Root won the toss and elected to bat first as both teams entered the ground amid huge cheers. Ishant started the proceedings and immediately struck to remove Dominic Sibley for a duck. A simple outswinger found the edge of Sibley and it was a regular catch for Rohit Sharma.
Axar Patel removes Jonny Bairstow for a duck
Seeking an opportunity, Virat Kohli immediately brought in Axar Patel which paid dividends immediately as the local boy removed Jonny Bairstow, playing his first game of the series for a duck leaving England in all sorts of trouble at 27 for two.
Axar Patel, who is playing only his second Test match, hit the right area in the very first ball of his spell. Jonny Bairstow prodded forward and missed the line. He thought he was forward enough and didn’t hesitate to take the review.
The ball was arrowed in straight and three reds are what the ball tracker suggested. The umpire was sure though and hence England have ended up losing a review. A wicket from the first ball for the home boy and India struck twice within the first hour of the match.
