I enjoyed playing under Shreyas Iyer – Axar Patel
He called Shreyas Iyer a smart captain, who gives the bowlers enough freedom on the field. He revealed how Shreyas Iyer asked him to set his own fields and stated how he eased him to be part of the team after joining the camp ahead of the season.
“I’ve played with Shreyas at India A also, and when I came to Delhi Capitals, it was really easy for me because we bond really well,” he said while speaking on the franchise’s official Instagram handle during a live session.
“On the field, he gives freedom to his bowlers and lets you adjust the fields. He is quite patient as well, and I have really enjoyed playing under him.”
I felt good to have contributed to the team:
Axar Patel has always been one such cricketer, who fails to get the limelight but never fails to perform for the team. However, he got recognition in Delhi camp when Ricky Ponting introduced his own man of the match batches for the players in the dressing room.
“Ricky would give a separate Man of the Match Award in the dressing room for someone who used to contribute to the team. I ended up winning it five times, and it ended up being a good recognition for me personally, and it felt good to have contributed to the team’s victories,” he said.
Axar Patel has got the ability to score quick runs with the bat and the ability to strangle the runs. He is custom-built for the limited-overs formats and is likely to be an asset to the team in the years to come.
