Sachin Tendulkar is a calm and composed figure on the cricket and has always let his bat do the talking. His aggression was his bat with which Tendulkar used to dispatch all the bowlers over the boundary ropes. However, there were few instances where emotions got the better of the master himself, mainly, during desert storm match against Australia in the Coco-Cola Cup in 1998.

India were reeling at 143 for four in pursuit of 285 runs, but they needed 254 to book a berth in the final. Sachin Tendulkar was keen to win the match but the desert storm made things worse. However, it turned pale in front of the master blaster’s bat in Sharjah – such was his talent.

When play resumed after the storm, India lost 4 overs but only 9 runs were deducted from India’s target, which Sachin felt was unfair. Recalling the incident, Sachin Tendulkar revealed that he was upset and the calculations for the chase went haywire.

“We went inside the dressing room thinking of the new revised target, what it would be. Eventually (when play resumed) we had 46 overs but if I’m not mistaking only 8-9 runs were deducted from the target so I was quite upset,” Sachin said recalling the desert storm match in Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected’.

“When we plan a chase we do it according to the full quota of overs and suddenly 4 overs are taken out and only 9-10 runs are deducted… That is where your calculations go for a toss,” he added.

Despite masterclass innings from Sachin Tendulkar, India lost the match by 26 runs (due to the revised target) but qualified for the finals on net run rate. They required 237 in 46 overs to overtake New Zealand. Tendulkar hammered 143 off 131 balls including nine fours and five sixes taking all the Australian bowlers for cleaners.
