Pakistan captain Babar Azam surpassed Virat Kohli’s record of most fifties in T20I format. He achieved this milestone during the 3rd match against Ireland played in Dublin on 14th May 2024.

Chasing down 179 runs to win, Pakistan lost an early wicket to Saim Ayub. Babar Azam came to the crease and looked in fine touch putting pressure on the Ireland bowlers. Rizwan and Babar showed intent on keeping the momentum going for Pakistan as they made 60 for 1 at the end of the first six overs.

Babar Azam looked in sublime touch keeping the scoreboard ticking. He made the batting look easy with 4 sixes in an over against Ben White. Azam kept the momentum going along with Rizwan. Babar reached his fifty off just 31 balls to keep Pakistan on course of a win. His innings came to an end on 75 off 42 deliveries with 6 fours and 5 sixes at a strike rate of 178.57. Rizwan and Babar Azam added 139 runs for the 2nd wicket.

It was one-way traffic as Pakistan won the match by six wickets with 3 overs. Azam Khan finished off the match with 2 sixes. Babar Azam was appointed the captain of the T20I and ODI team. Pakistan faced criticism as they drew the 5-match series against inexperienced New Zealand at home by 2-2.

Babar Azam Surpassed Kohli’s Record of Most Half-Centuries in T20I Format

Babar Azam surpassed Kohli’s record of most half-centuries in the shortest format. With that brilliant knock of 75, He made his T20I debut for Pakistan against England on 7th September 2016.

Babar Azam made 69 runs in the 5th T20I match against New Zealand at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on 27th April 2024. He followed it up with a well-compiled knock of 57 in the first T20I match against Ireland in Dublin on 10th May 2024.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli is currently on 38 plus fifty scores in T20I format. Both Virat Kohli and Babar Azam will be looking to score runs for their countries in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 that will take place in the USA and West Indies from 2nd June onwards.
