India’s batting mainstay Rohit Sharma shared a humorous piece of advice he had for teammate Kuldeep Yadav ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, which gets underway on February 7. Referring to Kuldeep’s frequent confusion while making DRS calls, Rohit joked that his only suggestion to the left-arm wrist-spinner would be to focus on bowling and then head straight back to his fielding position.
The light-hearted exchange also recalled a funny moment involving Kuldeep, Rohit and KL Rahul during the recently concluded third ODI against South Africa, where the trio were seen debating a DRS call. When broadcaster Jatin Sapru asked the 38-year-old what advice he would offer the Kanpur-born spinner, Rohit responded with a witty remark in a video that was later shared on X.
“Koi advice nahin hai bhai sahab ko. Ball daal apna chupchap aur peeche jaa. (No advice for him. Just bowl and go back).”
The forthcoming World Cup will mark the first edition without the presence of the explosive opening batter. Rohit Sharma had taken part in all nine of the previous T20 World Cup tournaments.
Rohit Sharma led Team India to triumph at the T20 World Cup in 2024 as captain
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma brought down the curtain on his T20I career following the last T20 World Cup, which was co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA. The right-handed batter amassed 257 runs during the tournament, highlighted by a breathtaking 92 against Australia as India secured a 24-run win.
Despite Rohit’s failure with the bat in the final against South Africa in Barbados, he marshalled the side brilliantly to a memorable comeback victory. While chasing 177, the Proteas appeared firmly in control before India turned the game on its head in the final five overs, eventually sealing a seven-run win.
With that triumph, India claimed their second T20 World Cup crown, adding to their maiden title in 2007. Under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, the reigning champions will begin their 2026 campaign against the USA on February 7 in Mumbai.
