Bangladesh’s interim captain, Litton Das, was disheartened as his struggle for form persisted, with a dismissal of only 6 runs from 16 balls in the second ODI against New Zealand in Dhaka on Saturday, September 23.
He has managed to score only one half-century in his previous ten ODI innings, which understandably left him frustrated as he returned to the pavilion.
In a widely circulated video on X, he could be observed vigorously striking his bat several times, nearly breaking it, before heading to the dressing room.

Litton Das found himself in another contentious situation
Litton Das became the centre of a ‘Spirit of Cricket’ debate when Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud ran out Ish Sodhi at the non-striker’s end. In the 46th over of New Zealand’s innings, Mahmud dislodged the bails in his run-up, catching Sodhi out of his crease due to his excessive backing up.
While Sodhi was officially declared run out by the third umpire, Litton Das had a conversation with the on-field umpire and chose to withdraw the appeal. Sodhi appreciated the gesture by giving Mahmud a warm hug, but this decision raised many eyebrows, especially on social media.
Numerous fans criticized Das for retracting his appeal, even though the ICC had deemed the non-striker run out as a fair and legitimate dismissal. Sodhi went on to contribute significantly with 35 runs for New Zealand, providing momentum for their bowling innings.
The leg-spinner continued to shine, taking an impressive six-wicket haul, leading to Bangladesh’s substantial 86-run loss. Das’s lack of form is a concern for Bangladesh since he is one of the dependable senior players in the batting lineup, and they will be hoping for an improved performance in the third ODI.
