Bangladesh Cricket Board is all set to organize two T20 games next year between Asia XI and the World XI. These games will be a part of the centenary birthday celebrations of Bangladesh”s founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. March 17 is a national holiday in the country on this behalf. To make it extra special, the board has made these arrangements.
The games will take place at Sher-E-Bangla Stadium, Mirpur on March 18 and 21(2020). The board is expecting to rope in the best players available to make the series intriguing. Only a couple of teams are involved in a test series during the specified period, as per the ICC schedule. This gives extra hope for the board to make a lot of stars participate in it.
According to the latest statement from the chief of BCB Mr.Nazmul Hassan, the ICC has approved to grant International status for the games. Normally, such status is granted only when at least one full member nation is involved in the game.”They made a special dispensation for us, but they said it is only a one-off that such a game will get International status “, Hassan said.
Reliving Memories
Games like this take us back to the memories of Asia XI vs Africa XI happened a decade ago. A lot of stars took part in it and the series is still fresh in the minds of cricket enthusiasts. It will now be a chance for the fans to witness Asian stars together yet again. A cracker of a series is on the cards next year when the sides mark their appearance on the ground.
This move by BCB, to commemorate one of their days was followed by the Srilankan board last year. Nidahas Trophy, known for Dinesh Karthik”s blistering innings was primarily conducted as a part of the country”s independence day celebrations.
