Bangladesh Toughens Stand After Mustafizur Rahman Row Ahead of T20 World Cup 2026

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken a firm position following the controversy surrounding Mustafizur Rahman’s availability, which has created uncertainty ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. The issue arose after the pacer’s participation in the Indian Premier League became complicated due to communication from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

In the aftermath, Bangladesh’s cricket administrators expressed discomfort over the overall situation, stating that the matter has broader implications beyond one player. The developments have prompted the BCB to rethink logistical and security aspects connected to the global tournament, particularly with India slated as a key host nation.

“Not Communicating With BCCI”: BCB’s Clear Stand

BCB President Aminul Islam made it clear that Bangladesh is not in direct talks with the Indian board regarding the issue. Emphasizing the tournament’s global nature, he stated, “We are not communicating with the BCCI because this is an ICC event.” According to Aminul, Bangladesh has officially written to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and is awaiting a response.

He added that the board would decide its next steps after discussions with the ICC, underlining that the governing body must address their concerns. The statement reflects Bangladesh’s intent to keep the matter within international cricket’s formal framework rather than bilateral channels.

Request to Shift Matches and What Lies Ahead

As part of its response, Bangladesh has requested that its T20 World Cup matches be shifted out of India. Aminul explained that the board currently “does not feel secure” under the prevailing circumstances, a remark that has drawn significant attention in the cricketing world.

Bangladesh was scheduled to play group-stage fixtures in cities like Kolkata and Mumbai, but the BCB believes a neutral arrangement would provide greater clarity and comfort.

While the ICC has yet to announce a decision, the situation highlights growing sensitivities around scheduling, player availability, and inter-board coordination. With the World Cup still some time away, Bangladesh hopes the ICC’s intervention will help resolve the matter amicably, ensuring that the focus returns to cricket rather than administrative disputes.
