BBL 2023-24: [WATCH] Unusual Event Unfolds As The Bails Stay In Place Despite The Ball Hitting The Stumps

In an unusual moment during the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) match between Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat on Saturday, January 13, the bails stayed on the stumps even though the ball hit them.

This happened on the last ball of the Scorchers’ innings when Nick Hobson’s shot resulted in an inside edge onto the leg stump by Paul Walter’s length ball. Surprisingly, the bails didn’t fall, and the batters managed a quick single.

The official BBL account on X shared the video with the following caption:

“How has that happened? The ball smashed into the ‘Electra Stumps,’ but the bails didn’t move.”

Perth Scorchers established a target of 159 runs for Brisbane Heat in their BBL match

Nick Hobson, Cooper Conolly, and Laurie Evans delivered a precise batting display, guiding Perth Scorchers to a total of 158/6 in their designated 20 overs. Hobson took the spotlight, contributing 48 runs from 30 balls, including four sixes and two half-centuries.

Additionally, Conolly and Evans made valuable contributions with scores of 35 (25) and 26 (22), respectively. Michael Neser stood out as the standout bowler for Brisbane Heat, securing figures of 2/21.

Meanwhile, Xavier Barlett, Spencer Johnson, Matthew Kuhnemann, and Paul Walter each claimed one wicket. In the reply, Brisbane Heat reached 67/2 in the initial 10 overs, with Jimmy Pierson (28 off 25) and Matt Renshaw batting.

Lance Morris made the initial breakthrough for Perth Scorchers by dismissing Josh Brown, who scored 29 off 22 balls. Following that, Andrew Tye swiftly removed skipper Nathan McSweeney at a low score.

Brisbane Heat leads the BBL points table with seven victories in nine matches, guaranteeing their spot in the knockout stage. Meanwhile, the Scorchers hold the third position with five wins in eight games, and securing another win would secure their spot in the final four.
