BCCI Finalises Five Venues for T20 World Cup 2026; Ahmedabad Likely to Host Final

India is gearing up to co-host the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 along with Sri Lanka, marking another major cricketing event in the subcontinent. According to NDTV sources, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has submitted a detailed schedule proposal to the International Cricket Council (ICC), outlining plans for the tournament to be held between March and April next year.

In its proposal, the BCCI has suggested that the matches be distributed among five Tier-1 cities, emphasizing modern infrastructure and international-standard facilities. Among them, Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium—known for hosting several IPL finals and the 2023 ODI World Cup final—is being considered the front-runner for the final match.

Pakistan’s Matches To Be Played in Sri Lanka

While India will host the majority of the tournament, Pakistan’s matches will take place in Sri Lanka due to ongoing political tensions between the two countries. The report stated, “Pakistan will not be travelling to India due to political tensions between the two nations and will play all their matches in Sri Lanka.”

The ICC is reportedly in the final stages of confirming a single Sri Lankan venue that will host all of Pakistan’s fixtures to maintain logistical simplicity and ensure security. This arrangement mirrors the structure of the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, where similar geopolitical considerations affected scheduling.

Disciplinary Actions Following Asia Cup Controversy

The article also noted fresh developments regarding the Asia Cup controversies that drew widespread attention. On Wednesday, the ICC imposed sanctions on players from India and Pakistan following inappropriate on-field gestures during their heated encounters.

Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav faced a 30 percent fine on his match fee for what the ICC described as his “Pahalgam tribute” comment made during the group-stage match on September 14. Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf received a harsher punishment—a 30 percent match fee fine and suspension—for his provocative behavior during the Super Four and final matches against India on September 21 and 28.

His actions included making a controversial “6–0” gesture at Indian fans and mimicking a plane crash, which the ICC deemed unacceptable. Additionally, Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan was officially warned for performing a “gunshot” celebration during the Super Four stage.

With the tournament approaching and preparations in full swing, the BCCI’s venue finalization and ICC’s disciplinary measures signal that the cricketing world is already building momentum ahead of what promises to be an electrifying T20 World Cup 2026.
